Charles Raymond CARTER was born in Chippenham on 19th October 1914 (Newmarket Q4-1914 3B:787) , baptised in Chippenham on 22nd November 1914 , the son of Henry Arthur (carpenter) and Helen Margaret CARTER (née WOODS).

Probate gave his address as New Street,Chippenham. The Memorial in Chippenham seems to be the only place where he is recorded as Raymond Charles instead of Charles Raymond

In the 1939 register (transcribed as Carster), his father Harry A, [29-6-1880]a gardener and special constable and mother Helen [18-3-1886] were in New Street, Chippenham.There is one closed record. Charles was a forester, working on the Chippenham estate.



He was captured the day Singapore was surrendered to the Japanese. Charles died of Dysentery at Tamarkan Camp on the Burma Railway and was buried at Tamarkan Main Graveyard, being moved to Kanchanburi in January 1946
